Is there any documentation that states how a tournament gets a star rating at present? If so, would be useful to know.
Surely it's not a case of simply getting 16 pairs and calling it, say, 4* as that makes a mockery of it if 15 of those pairs are complete beginners and one pair has played for 4 weeks. That way you could win a 4* event and get huge ranking points/ratings?
Should the star rating be determined retrospectively by an algorithm based on the combined rankings/points of the competitors? Or is that too late in competition terms?
